Pirates Week 2015 kicks off on Thursday, 12th November! This internationally renowned festival will run until Sunday, 22 November. For over 30 years it has been Cayman's largest celebration, drawing some 35,000 patrons. It now boasts 32 different events from street dances to fireworks!
The Greenhouse, a casual café in the heart of George Town will open in late 2015. Specialising in gluten-free, Paleo friendly cuisine made with love, there will also be a wide selection of dishes for veggie lovers.

|Michael's Genuine moving on...||What comes next?|
A sad day foodies... Shortly after marking its fifth anniversary on June 15, Michael's Genuine Food & Drink announced that they will close their doors later this summer 2015. A Good Taste favourite, Michael's played a significant role in establishing Camana Bay as one of the best spots for foodies. The restaurant supported local farmers, served seasonal ingredients and featured the invasive lionfish on their menu. We will certainly miss them... Be sure to visit Michael's before they close! Great specials are featured daily. On July 4 at 7pm, they roll-out their themed night Rum & Q, with rum tasting stations, cocktails, desserts and BBQ on the Crescent Lawn at Camana Bay. $68 all-inclusive.

Lionfish, a voracious and invasive new comer to the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, has devastated marine life in the region. Without any natural predators, this Indo-Pacific native has descended on Cayman's pristine reefs in great numbers. Fortunately, there have been massive efforts by the Department of Environment, the dive industry and civil society groups such Cayman United Lion Fish League, to cull the local populations of lionfish. But is there any good news? Well.... lionfish is delicious and many restaurants are doing their part to serve it up to seafood lovers! Good Taste has some sad news for all you curry feigns... After being a go-to favourite on Cayman's culinary scene for over 10 years, Gateway of India closed in early February. We got wind of the news earlier this year, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Read on for the good news!
As the old adage teaches, when one door closes another opens. Food For Thought has taken over the take-out component of Gateway of India. They also hired Chef Joe, who was with Gateway for nine years. Chef Joe will continue to satiate Indian foodies with curries and fresh naan bread... Food For Thought scooped up Gateway's tandoori oven for the latter.

Local institution, Seymour's Jerk Centre closed its Shedden Road operations last July, but soon reopened at a new seaside location on South Church Street (next to Atlantis Submarines). Jerk lovers can rest assured that Seymour's is still offering up the same beloved classics from Monday to Saturday.
|New Farmers Market on old grounds coming soon...||Rolling Stove stops rollin.|
The little fruit and veg stalls that are dotted around George Town may soon have a new home... A 6000 square foot covered market will be open to local vendors to sell homegrown products around mid-year. Located in George Town, next to the cricket oval, it is on the same site as the old farmer's market that was damaged in Hurricane Ivan. The new market will house 32 stalls and be open 6 days per week.
Popular food-truck Rolling Stove that specialised in great pub(ish) eats, closed shop in late 2014. But this is not an unhappy ending, as the owners are involved in a new venture called Whiskey Mist. Read on to learn more!

That breezy waterfront spot tucked in the heart of Morgan's Harbour was quiet for a while after Morgan's Harbour restaurant closed in early 2014. But soon after a buzz of activity began and Good Taste was one of the first to learn that the team behind Agua was opening a new seafood restaurant called Catch. In late 2014 the restaurant opened for business so book now to indulge in fresh locally caught seafood and exquisite cocktails...
A Camana Bay favourite, Jessie's Juice Bar has two new locations: Governors Square and on the 2nd Floor, Harbour Place (at South West Collective) in George Town. Jessie's serves up freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices, nutritious made-to-order smoothies, fermented loose leaf teas, home-made Kombucha and gourmet coffee. Their extensive vegan and gluten free eats are a 'conscious' foodie's delight.

Beaches, Rouge Lounge, the outdoor Carp Bar and Blue Mountain Cafe closed in late 2014 due to an ongoing dispute with the owner of Grand Harbour. As you know, we at Good Taste always have our ears to the ground, but we have heard no news about any new openings planned for 2015. The fate of Grand Harbour, once a major dining hub, still remains uncertain...
Diners familiar with the original Morgan's Harbour get ready! The restaurant, now simply called Morgan's, reopened in the newly redeveloped Yacht Club in early 2015. Indulge in their popular ocean-to-table dishes while you take in the sweeping waterfront views of Governor's Creek on the gorgeous deck.

Summer 2014 marked the opening of Cayman's newest sports bar - Overtime! Open for 24 hours and located underneath Elements nightclub at The Strand, Overtime boasts 14 televisions (perfect for watching the game!), great happy hour specials and serves all day breakfast.

As of March 2014, Peppers Smokehouse opened its doors in what used to be known as 'Aqua Beach'. With special 'Box Grills', Pepper's serves up authentic jerk and smokehouse BBQ. Redone and refurbished, head down to Pepper's to feel the vibes in a relaxed tropical setting in the heart of Seven Mile Beach.
Serving up Cayman Classics like Lionfish Tacos and Fish 'n Chips - Eagle Ray's Dive Bar and Grill is the perfect stop out East. Great as a lunch stop on a drive around the island or a great dinner destination on the 'quieter' side of the Cayman, they also serve up a mouthwatering Indonesian 'Rijstafel' night every Thursday night.

The Tasting Room, located in the new Caribbean Plaza on the Seven Mile strip, is a small, eclectic wine and gourmet food store fiercely committed to quality no matter the source. They offer everything from small unknown wineries to big-name wines and collectors bottles with some of the freshest foods available in their gourmet food shop.
While die hard 'Triple Crown Pub' fans might be disgruntled by the change in restaurant ownership, craft beer lovers and gastropub connoisseurs alike will adore the vast selection of specialty beers (and specialty cocktails!) with a full menu of eclectic selections like the Wild Boar or Venison at the new Craft.

Red Snapper, was a new addition to the Cayman culinary scene, that opened for business in January 2014 but sadly closed after a few months of operation. Reflecting true Caymanian heritage, Red Snapper offered guests freshly caught local fish daily. xxx
After being open for over 13 years, Hard Rock Cafe, located in Downtown George Town, was unfortunately forced to close its doors after a legal dispute with the U.S. parent company in October 2013.
|Lobster Pot Back in Business!||Vegans Love Bread & Chocolate|
The Lobster Pot's anticipated refurbishment is now complete and one of Cayman's favourite establishments is up and running once again! Residents and visitors to Cayman may have noticed some changes to Governors Square recently. Regrettably, the Brazilian steakhouse, PRIME, closed in early 2013 along with Wine Down and its market. We look forward to new tenants occupying the vacant space and reporting on what's new in the complex.
After a long period behind closed doors, Bella Roma has officially ceased business and new owners Lauren Bennett and her husband 'Link' have opened Lauren's. The Texan couple have grown up in the restaurant business and bring their experience to Cayman. This cozy restaurant is a warm and welcoming place with lots of natural light and delicious comfort food to match. Their breakfast is particularly good and the crepes to die for!

Cayman's newest Asian restaurant opened its doors in February 2013 in Regency Plaza. Wok 'n Roll offers a diverse menu of East and South East Asian cuisine with take out, eat-in and delivery available.
The Caribbean Jerk & Grill House recently opened to the public. After renovations and a fresh new look for the Seven Mile site of previous restaurant Roland's Garden and the Butterfly Farm, the newly constructed pagoda and Caribbean style menu are a welcome change. Pay a visit to this family style restaurant, the oxtail dinner and rotis come highly recommended.

The establishments formerly known as Brick House, Oar House, Dog house & Brew House have brand new management and brand new branding to go along! The restaurants as a group are now known as "Check Inn" and the individual restaurants have new names also: Sail Inn (Brick House), Weigh Inn (Oar House), Brew Inn (Brew House) and Game On (Dog House).
The food truck trend has spread throughout the United States, with vehicles ranging from cheap, street food vendors to chic Zagat-rated outposts. Following suit, Cayman now has it's own food on wheels for 2013! Al la Ke vroom is Al La Kebab's mobile kebab truck- check facebook for where it will be next!
