Welcome to Bacaro - a Venetian word to describe a convivial and comfortable restaurant where wine is poured and small portions of food called "Cichetti" are served. Venice's Bacari derive from early hostelry; Men coming from work would stop at one to get an early jump on alcohol consumption. Eating small plates became fashionable, and like the evolution of tapas in Spain, the food went through a gourmet makeover, the wine started to come from reputable firms and an exciting new food era began. Today, eating Cichetti in Venice is commonly practiced amongst tourists and locals alike.
